Short Film Going into Pre-Production. Need ACTORS!

We just got a stellar idea for a new short 20 minute film. We are going to try to make the deadline for the Sac International Film Festival, but this means we have to move through the pre-production process fast! We will have the script fully completed by Christmas and plan on shooting the weekend of January 2 and 3 (Sat night and Sun night). We need ACTORS! I don't have a specific character list yet, but I'm asking anyone who may be interested to please contact me as soon as possible, so that… Continue

December 2009

I've been forgetting to come back regularly to this site. I like the networking aspect of it, and it also allows me yet another place to write a blog. I don't really like cutting and pasting blogs that I've written from other places, so it's another outlet.

For the remainder of December, I have only one project. It's a trailer for a 70's style horror movie, and although it's played very serious, the title will tell you it's not. What's the title? I'm not saying. I may even get into a… Continue

Interesting Changes in the Exhibition Business

This month we've seen some interesting developments in the Exhibition business... the people who own the theaters. Naturally, this directly relates to Movie Making since these are the people we want to show our products. The big challenge has always been "How do we get our products (movies) to them". Traditionally, the only way was through a distributor. The Distribution Deal became the Holy Grail. But as of recently, the distributors have not been buy much of Indy Movie product ( for a number… Continue

So You Say You're In the "Film Business"

What is it with all these people here who say they are in the "Film Business" in Sacramento??? I suspect they would "like" to be in some sort of "film business", but I'm sure most of them all have "day jobs". Come on...There are only a handful of people who make their FULLTME living using a camera...and that would be in professional video production. There is no film business in Sacramento.

So this site needs to come up with more catagory choices.... like: MovieMaking Afficianado, or maybe… Continue

Scoring "The Killing of Mary Surratt"

Just finished scoring Chris King's beautiful "The Killing of Mary Surratt", a very poignant period piece, reenactment Lincoln-era documentary...a very empathetic treatment of a very troubled time and issue, and real opportunity to compose expressive music. Used string orchestra and solo instruments - piano, cello, viola, pioneer fiddle, and acoustic guitar. watermarkfilms.net of Sacramento area.

Updating Filmmaking Equipment (Well just a little)

So. I have decided to finally sell my Canon HV30 today. I put it up on Craigslist and decided to upgrade my equipment. It was kind of sad knowing that i would not be working with the camera that's been with me since the beginning, through thick and thin. But it's time for us to go our separate ways. Hopefully he will move on just as I know i will move on without him, and I wish him the best of success in the future. I will keep my 35mm Depth of field adapter. This has been the difference… Continue
