New and improved! Lucifer and the Magus website

The Official website for Lucifer and the Magus.

Yes, it took a while. Lots of technical difficulties, including web browser incompatibilities! Will the war never end? :)

So, Google Chrome works best when viewing the site. Internet Explorer is okay but the font size in certain parts is too small. :(

More features to come. Including a game... See link below.…

Current Projects 2 of 20

I have started on another short script. Sci-fi of course, but this time I am attempting the use of a CG character with live action and virtual sets (lots of green screenin'). Yes. You read that. A CG character. Trying for "as real as possible" for the shoestring budget production. I let y'all know when the script is finished in case anyone wants to join in on the model making and animation.

The on going project "Dreamness" is a bit boggy. I still need to finish the first draft…

SFF 2012 good for the Filmmaker's Soul

I attended the Sacramento Film Festival over the last weekend of the event. I got to meet and listen to people in the movie industry and those who practice transmedia. Very educational for those wanting to make a living at making movies.

The "Surreal" segment of the festival had many great movies. Even the Sac-Animation segment had a few enjoyable and humorous moments.

I personally learned a lot from the experience. I recommend going to next year's festival…

Lucifer and the Magus, The Anti-Climax or Apples and Oranges

My movie Lucifer and the Magus should have won some kind of award, however it was in a category that did not win any awards at all. The movie was hidden in the Sac-Animation segment, but there was never an award for best animation. What's up with that? Not even best "fantasy"? Best visual effects? Nothing? I mean heck, the music by itself should have gotten an award.

I am appreciative of the fact that it was in the festival. But I was expecting a bit more "exposure". An audience…

Premiere of Lucifer and the Magus - A short by Charles Bryan

You are invited by Mind's Clay Productions, Mad.By.Design Studio and ZARLOE for the premiere of Lucifer and the Magus.

A short film about a guardian of humanity confronting the infamous being of light, Lucifer, in an attempt to free humankind. Is Lucifer innocent, as It claims, the patsy for evil deeds of the World Elite, or is this merely one of Lucifer's deceptions?

APR 28th, 3PM at the Artisan in…

48 Hour 2012 - update this is no April Fool's Joke

Nope. Not gonna make it.

I was trying to nap my cold away while the tracking software was doing its thing. I just checked the tracking which should have been done by now. It is not done! The software stopped! It was just sitting there, until I pressed the mouse button to see if it had locked up. I got the "program not responding" message, then it started working again.

Obviously this movie was not meant for the 48 Hour Challenge.

48 Hour 2012 - update part 2

Damn... Doesn't look so good. I am now 6 hours behind schedule due to technical difficulties.

1) Software crashes, yes still having issues with my editing software

2) no audio on my audio computer (took an hour to fix), but I eventually created a decent scanners sound effect

3) the first "stabilization" attempt AE stabilization (for the effects shot) took an hour to analyze, and it was crap. Did not do what I needed.

4) second stabilization attempt using Mocha.…

48 Hour 2012 - update part 1

Just finished shooting and am now capturing the footage and audio into the computer. This project isn't exactly what I had in mind. I FORGOT ABOUT THE GENRES! AUUUGH! The genres. Well I picked, via a hat, Animal Psychic as a genre. So, it's gonna be something of a comedy since I don't know any animals that are psychic. :)

I went short and sweet. I wanted to make sure it gets finished without elevating my blodd pressure and driving 90 MPH to deliver the DVD to the Artisan in…

Mission Impossible: assignment= solo 48 hour project

Yes. I will be attempting the seemingly impossible. Write, direct, act, cinematography, edit, visual effects all by me. This is an experiment. I want to see if I can accomplish a 48 hour movie without the Chaos. :)

However, I might meet some talent willing to succumb to my will. :)

Magus Movie Update part 6: Now Officially "Lucifer and the Magus" at the SFF

Okay. Now how to get everyone to the festival to watch the movie? Hmmm....

First off... spam Facebook. :) Okay. I will send only one post. Every hour. No, really. Just the one post. Then I'll sign up for multiple accounts under different names and post again. Just kidding. Deviously clever but too much work.

Perhaps, invite as many producers as I can via IMDBpro, telling them this is a must see. From Steven Spielberg's account.

Maybe, and this one is legal, get a guest…

Magus Movie Update, part 5

Okay. I submitted the movie. I was hoping the "received" indication would  have shown up on Withoutabox by now. I am not sure how that all works.

Those that participated in this movie are extremely anxious to see it. I am not sure if I want them to see it before the premiere. Kind of a "don't want to jinx it" thing.

Directors are known to be superstitious. Or at least superstitious things happen around them. Like Terry Giliam's experiences. Are these mishaps perhaps the…

Magus Movie Update, part 3

Well, mixing the audio, adding sound effects/foley. Sounding good with the sound track music (which just arrived).

However, I am having an issue with color matching. All the effects shots (rendered from After Effects) are "dark" compared to the original footage. I have tried several settings adjustments, rendered to Bluray, and saw NO difference. Everything is dark. I am suspecting the Bluray HD range of colors. On a DVD, I don't think it would be an issue. Everything looks…

Magus Movie Update

Whew! I took last week off in the attempt to finish all the VFX on my movie short. With all the multi-tasking and lacking social life, I was almost 100% finished. One effect still needs development and a few need some fixing and re-render. I was sooo close. :)

I am trying to have the project complete by a certain date. I have had to compromise on  some of the VFX. There was a certain look I was going for, but with the time contraint, I do not have the time.…

Magus Movie update, part 1

Finishing up on the principal shots for a movie short with working title Magus Movie.

A lil' bit of fantasy, a lil' bit of matial arts, a bit o' philosophical psychobabble and a plethora of visual effects and post-processing.

This is a trans-media short supporting a feature  length movie, working title: Nunya.

I don't know when the final final product will be finished. But I will keep y'all informed...
