CFF 1st SATURDAY SPEAKERS EXCLUSIVE:
Getting sound right is critical to getting your film right yet many indie filmmakers often skimp on this crucial step. The result is spotty, unrealistic audio that takes the viewer out of your film. Fortunately, the capital region has a few true audio professionals that get the job done right. One such pro is Donavan Murphy.
Donavan started recording sounds in 1992 after receiving a Talk Boy Deluxe (the handheld tape recorder from Home Alone 2). He has a degree in Commercial Audio Production and has owned a recording studio in Sacramento.
In 2016 Donavan switched from music to film full time and has since worked on many film and TV sets including features, documentaries and a slew of commercial shoots for clients like Subaru, Colusa Casino, Univision, and KVIE. This year he's on track to do over 100 films by the end of August.
In 2018 Donavan completed a 48 Hours Sacramento film for the Sacramento Film Festival entirely on an iPhone. The point was to make a statement that as long as you have great audio, you can literally film on your phone.
Now join the CFF 1st Saturday Speakers series as we welcome Donavan Murphy for a fascinating look at location audio.
