I am the producer of the narrative feature "The Other Barrio". The film's director and co-producer is Dante Betteo. "The Other Barrio" was adapted for the screen by Dante Betteo and Richard Montoya from a short story of the same name by San Francisco Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguia.
THE OTHER BARRIO
As if ripped from today's headlines reporting fires, evictions and protests, "The Other Barrio" tells the story of housing inspector Roberto Morales (Richard Montoya) as he investigates the suspicious circumstances of a fatal fire in a residential hotel in San Francisco’s Mission District and finds himself face to face with murder in the streets, corruption at City Hall and the mysterious Sophia Nido (Veronica Valencia), a beautiful but dangerous flame from his past. This independent Noir narrative feature, based on a short story by San Francisco Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguia, takes viewers deep into neighborhoods and communities seldom seen on film, while addressing issues around gentrification and displacement of low-income communities along the way.
