Before high-speed home internet and powerful gaming PCs became household staples, the Internet Cafe (or Warnet in Indonesia, PC Bang in Korea) was the epicenter of digital culture. These bustling hubs were not just places to check email; they were the birthplaces of esports legends and the social networks of the early 2000s. Here is a look at the most played games that defined this era.

Counter-Strike (1.6 & Source)
No list of internet cafe history is complete without Counter-Strike. Whether it was the original mod for Half-Life or the standalone 1.6 version, this tactical shooter was the undisputed king. The game's low system requirements made it perfect for the modest hardware found in cafes. It fostered intense local LAN competitions where teams would shout strategies across rows of computers, laying the foundation for modern tactical shooters like Valorant and CS:GO.
